However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Edit summaries, please[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Departments of France does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Eric talk 03:20, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome, Sheila- Requesting again that you get in the habit of using edit summaries, and that you familiarize yourself with the "show preview" buttion. Makes collaborating easier for everyone. Thanks. Eric talk 22:33, 26 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll echo Eric's comments.
I just encountered Sheila through these 3 edits[1][2][3], none of which has an edit summary.
Out of Sheila's most recent 50 edits, I see only 6 with a non-automated edit summary. That's ~12% editsummary usage, but the figure should really be at or close to 100%.
Please see Help:Edit summary for guidance on how to write them. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:21, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The idea is a good one. However, the method is not. With the cut and paste method, the article edit history got lost and it makes it look like you are the sole and only author of the film article and no credit given to the other editors who worked on it. The correct method is to use the Move command. If for some reason that doesn't work then ask an administrator for help at WP:RM. I am going to restore the content as it was, then try to go about it this way. -- GreenC 16:31, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@GreenC:, OK. I definitely think that the book should be The Roots of Heaven (maybe (novel) ) and the film The Roots of Heaven (film), as the book is the original creative work. As it stands the talk pages are messed up and in the wrong places. Blythwood (talk) 16:40, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Sheila1988. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ballina, New South Wales, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ballina (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Recently created redirects[edit]

Hey! I noticed that you created the redirects Brid Stack and Noelle Healy but they don't link to an existing article. Did you intend to make those like that? Jiten talk contribs 16:19, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bríd Stack requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 17:18, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sheila1988: In my previous post, it didn't occur to me to go beyond discussing the sourcing. But now, I’ll cover what I should have also covered then. I’ve been fortunate enough to have taken this article (SPARS) from Stub-class to GA class, and in the coming weeks, I hope to nominate it for an A-class review. With an A-class review, usually, four different editors review and comment. As for your addition, I can't say what their comments would be but, from my experience, I would suspect they’d run along the following lines:
<> The word spar has more than a single meaning, which is why it is (linked) explained at the top of the article’s page.
For the various meanings of "spar", see Spar (disambiguation).
  • This link puts the reader on notice that there are several meanings to the word spar.
  • Doesn’t this cancel out the need for your addition?

<>The addition drift's away from the subject of the sentence and does not improve it; rather it has the opposite effect.

<>...as well as punning on spar... Most reviewers would have a field day with this.

  • You know it's meaning, but the average reader will not, and will probably be confused by it.

<> Citations: To be consistent, the citation should include only the last name of the author and the page number of the reference source. Where there is no author noted, then use the name of the article.

<> Bibliography: To be consistent, in this case, use the cite web template for including the reference information. When in an edit mode, the template is found at the left of the page. References should be placed in alphabetical order.

<> In sum, I could have reverted the addition without contacting you, but I thought it unfair to you. Instead, I've gone through the above exercise thinking it would be helpful to you. I trust you will see this post in that light. Ping me if you have questions. Regards! Pendright (talk) 20:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:29, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sheila1988. I noticed that you recently used ethnicelebs.com as a source for information in a biography article, Leonor, Princess of Asturias. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Erin McGregor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Categories[edit]

Please note that "20xx television seasons" categories have the inclusion criteria "This category is for television seasons that have aired at least one episode in 20xx." Note especially "have aired" which can't happen until the year has started. This means that 2019 season categories cannot be populated until 2019 has started. For this reason, they should not be created until 2019 has commenced as they have to remain empty until then. This issue has been discussed and if you look at the logs for Category:2019 television seasons you will see the administrator protected it specifically stating "Cat shouldn't be created until after seasons begin". --AussieLegend () 17:54, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wajib (film)[edit]

Hi Sheila. Per Template:Infobox film, the fields for country and language are not linked, as you did [5]. The country parameter states "Also, do not link to Cinema of XXXX" and the language parameter states "languages are not automatically linked. This has been done intentionally because according to WP:OVERLINK, most major languages should generally not be linked. Please do not override this by using a piped link". Hope that helps. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:17, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK. But I thought unusual languages do get linked - this film is in the Palestinian vernacular, not standard Arabic, so maybe it should be linked. Sheila1988 (talk) 19:20, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Ways to improve Bailieboro Shamrocks GAA[edit]

Thanks for creating Bailieboro Shamrocks GAA.

A New Page Patroller Cwmhiraeth just tagged the page as having some issues to fix, and wrote this note for you:

There are some "citation needed" tags requiring attention.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can reply over here and ping me. Or, for broader editing help, you can talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Hallo Sheila, When you create an article like Upperthird for which there is an alternative name, please remember to create a redirect from that name so that readers can use it to find the article. I've just created a redirect from Upper Third. It also reduces the chance of some future careless editor creating a duplicated article at the other spelling! Thanks. Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Thank you for your addition to List of biblical place names in North America. I checked the target articles of several of the towns you added, and there was no indication the place was named after the bible. In many cases, towns with biblical sounding names are in fact not named after the biblical place (typically they are named after someone who coincidentally had a biblical sounding name). This is why a source stating that the place is in fact named for the biblical place is necessary. Thanks for your understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:45, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Krefeld[edit]

Please let me understand - Ruth-Margret Pütz - why you'd introduce Uerdingen which I don't see in the sources? - I don't think the singer's article is the right place to teach about German history. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:41, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The city was merged with its neighbour in 1929 - from the Krefeld article - "In 1929 Krefeld and Uerdingen merged to form Krefeld-Uerdingen; in 1940 the name was shortened to simply Krefeld." More here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krefeld-Uerdingen_am_Rhein Sheila1988 (talk) 17:08, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not the question, and I didn't doubt that. My question is: why mention Uerdingen when none of the sources does? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:17, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The diff highlighed that you had changed "emperor" to a file reference which looked link a bit of schoolboy pranksterism. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Psalm 46, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page City of God (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Schmidt Happens moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Schmidt Happens, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ArbCom 2019 election voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

A tag has been placed on Category:Alcohol-related deaths in China requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

Notice

The article Swietenia Puspa Lestari has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no actual evidence of notability except placement on a list

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). I notice you've been going from article to article trying to figure out--from the text--what the origin of the place name is. This really isn't the most encyclopedic way of doing things, and sometimes the text you are making inferences from is unsourced. I believe I've reverted two of your edits so far. A tag has been placed on Category:Films shot in Dublin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

Liz Read! This is to let you know that the The Cat and the Canary (1927 film) article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 31, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 31, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

Please do not change a redirect to point to a blank page, in this case, St. Declan's Monastery. After the article has been created, then the redirect can be changed. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:27, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check your ReFill[edit]

Hallo, please don't rely on ReFill to get references right, as you did in Big Jubilee Read. As it happened this ref had already been used, with a name, in the article, so the solution was to re-use it, but the version you left was a bit of a mess, courtesy of ReFill! ("|first=Sian Griffiths, Education|last=Editor") Thanks. PamD 08:00, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks. Sheila1988 (talk) 19:42, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don'tuse ReFill myself: is there a way to prompt it that a particular ref is a book, or thesis, etc, so that it looks for the right fields (like ISBN for a book, uni and degree for a thesis)? I've upgraded a couple of the refs in The Hills Were Joyful Together, with a bit of detective work (especially for the one where Google alleged that the author was "NA NA" - the editor name showed up on the cover, the author of that particular "chapter" showed up on the 2nd page, Amazon found me the ISBN).
It's good to see the red links in Big Jubilee Read one-by-one turning blue, thanks! PamD 07:45, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PamD i don't think it's able to do that at the moment, but there may be some bots that can fix it Sheila1988 (talk) 12:14, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again, thanks for creating My Bones and My Flute but please don't rely entirely on Refill to format the references. Please take the time to look at each ref and see whether it gives enough detail to (a) let the reader see what kind of source it is to evaluate, and (b) let a future editor search for an archived copy if this url fails. I use the citation toolbar which sometimes needs a bit of help, eg it often ignores authors names or comes up with "the Guardian", small "t", though it gets the ref off to a good start. A reference like "On life" with date and nothing else isn't really a reference, and a bit of editor intervention is needed after Refill has done what it can. (In that case I don't think it even got the article title right: "On life" seems to be the section or column name!) Thanks. PamD 05:59, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK I'll be more careful in future, will have a look through the refs. Sheila1988 (talk) 18:49, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. One note: I am not quite sure why you moved an article titled Barbara Warren that has been on Wikipedia since 2008 to change that article instead to a disambig page especially when there are only two people on Wiki with that name. Can you tell me why? My guess is it was done after you discovered the second person by the same name -- Barbara Warren (artist) -- and so you made a disambiguous page. Another option, and the easiest, would have been to make a notation at the top of the two Barbara Warren articles referencing the other to distinguish the two as different people. In fact, that could be done now if you were to reverse what you did by restoring the original Barbara Warren page and doing away with the disambiguation page. Original research issues[edit]

A number of you CSA ship namesake edits are popping up on my watchlist, and quite a few of them are fairly bad WP:No original research violations. For instance, this one to Baltic. I've consulted 5 RS on this topic and none of them make that connection. This edit to Fredericksburg is very problematic as construction on the ship began before the Battle of Fredericksburg was fought - the ship could as well have been named after Fredericksburg, Virginia. I noticed you changed your additions to CSS Missouri to remove the (incorrect) speculation that the river was the namesake, but it should have never been added. Or how do you know that CSS Columbia was named after the personification of the country the ship was fighting against, rather than Columbia, South Carolina. I've also removed your additions to CSS A. B. Seger - the source you provided makes no mention of the vessel, so that's also original research.

Please refrain from further original research. It's better to have no namesake than a guess/incorrect/dubious/original research name present. Hog Farm Talk 00:33, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

San Giuseppe da Copertino[edit]

A few months ago, you created entries for a batch of Roman churches, which I discovered while making updates related to the new cardinals created last week. It's great to see List of titular churches without red links!

But it looks like you missed one: San Giuseppe da Copertino. Right now this links via a REDIRECT entry to Giuliano-Dalmata#Places of interest, where that church appears in a short list. We have no entry for that church. I wonder if you could create that entry to complete your wonderful work on titular churches. There's an entry on Italian wikipedia here: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiesa_di_San_Giuseppe_da_Copertino

TFA[edit]

I see that you have nominated Witchfinder General (film) for 31 October. It's a 2006 promotion that doesn't appear to have been reviewed here, nor do you seem to have edited it recently. That doesn't mean that it's not fit to run, but I'd like some assurance on that. Also pinging SandyGeorgia and Casliber who might have some input. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:08, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jimfbleak I'd stay away from that one, and suggest that Sheila1988 take WP:URFA/2020 status in to account when nominating at TFA. That particular article was written by an editor who hasn't edited for five years, it is one of the very oldest unreviewed FAs, and the Hal Raglan's other FA has already been delisted (Wikipedia:Featured article review/The Pit and the Pendulum (1961 film)/archive1). Witchfinder General is still unreviewed at URFA only because no one has yet gotten to it, and we have no film expert to have a look. But I'd not expect it to be in very good shape. That said, I still have the philosophy that running old FAs is one good way to get people to have a look, and then probably bring the FAR, so if you decide to go with it anyway, I'd not object ... as long as you are prepared to take the heat if it turns out to be a hunk of junk :) :) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:41, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SandyGeorgia, thanks. I seemed to remember this running into trouble at a TFAR some time ago, which is why I'm seeking reassurance. I've ping Cas because he might have been involved, but unless someone says they've vetted/improved it, it won't run Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:45, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look at the prose and the history ... it has been heavily edited in the last five years (are those editors up on FA level prose? I dunno), and one easily spots prose infelicities and redundancies and passive voice ... when talking about British pounds, "expenditure of money" as opposed to expenditure of ... what ? It could use a good copyedit. Considering its age, I doubt the sourcing is up to snuff. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:49, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. Not a massive deal, but maybe have a quick look at WP:OPCOORD. Overly precise coords are probably best avoided for larger subjects/objects. In the context of this edit for example, 17 decimal places is an accuracy measured in the nanometres. Even at 7 decimal places, the difference between 53.3379199,-6.2972806 and 53.3379198,-6.2972806 is barely 10 millimeters on the ground :) Just something to think about. County Londonderry[edit]

Please refrain from altering references to County Londonderry to read County Derry. As per WP:DERRY the name of County Londonderry is to be used on Wikipedia. Also please note that, unlike the city naming, the name of County Derry is a purely colloquial name and not a historical name. If you read up on the history of County Londonderry you will see it was created from County Coleraine and there was not a historical County Derry previously that was renamed to Londonderry. Canterbury Tail talk 15:15, 12 December 2022 (UTC) OK, I thought it was more appropriate for a GAA-related article but I suppose not for the location. It's fair to use County Derry for the GAA organisation (since that is its actual name), but not for the geographic location. Canterbury Tail talk 15:39, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to Terra Nullius article[edit]

Hello

I have edited your addition of Ireland to the Terra Nullius article in order for it to better reflect the sources and would be grateful if you would look at my changes. My concern is that the authors you cite aren't using the term Terra Nullius in its technical sense as a rule of international law, but rather as an analogy. In other words they argue that the English treated Ireland as if it were terra nullius even though it wasn't. They all make it clear that in terms of international law (such as it was at the time) Ireland was acquired by conquest or cession. Happy to discuss. Use template sandboxes and test before publishing changes[edit]

Hi. I see you struggled over multiple edits to make changes to {{GAAmatchbox collapsible}} and each time to made a change, the results were transcluded onto every page using this template. It is more than desirable to make changes first to the template sandbox found at Template:Template name/sandbox then run tests to ensure the new code is working as desired (Template:Template name/testcases may be used), before making a single, solid and undisruptive change to the live template. Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

People trying to get rid of your Osage-language title for Killers of the Flower Moon[edit]

Have you noticed that people have repeatedly eliminated this from the Killers of the Flower Moon film article? And with what reason? John315 (talk) 08:49, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Too, while I'm on the line, they are cutting the Devery Jacobs quotes I put in the article, criticizing Killers, down to an itty-bitty amount, far smaller than some film critics' multi-line quotes which they're not complaining about. The Entertainment Weekly article with the quotes even got removed from "Critical response" to a new category, "Indigenous response"; this may not be a bad thing, or all bad, but, whatever you think. In any case, their giving a Native like Jacobs a much smaller (shorter quotes) platform than others, seems like a "double standard", or maybe even worse. Thought you should know. Hope to hear, best, John315 (talk) 08:58, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

April TFAP[edit]

Hi Sheila, regarding today's edit at WP:TFAP, I'd need to see a discussion about what was decided at WP:Today's featured article/requests/Super Columbine Massacre RPG! before running that one. (I'd need to see a discussion about the other one too.) Can you tell me a little bit about your reasoning for selecting Super Columbine Massacre RPG!? - Dank (push to talk) 17:16, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ah ... I see you haven't notified the FAC nominators about adding their nominations to TFA, I'll do that now (if they have pinging enabled). @Another Believer, Epicgenius, and David Fuchs: ... any thoughts on running Super Columbine Massacre RPG! in April and Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) during the Republican National Convention this summer? - Dank (push to talk) 17:49, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Dank: Honestly, I would not be very comfortable running Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) as TFA during a U.S. presidential election year, especially during a year when Trump is widely expected to be a front-runner for the Republican Party nomination. Although I don't think the article needs many changes, I think it's best that the Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) article appear as TFA either in 2025 or later, or not at all. Otherwise, there's bound to be plenty of controversy, especially if we run it during the Republican National Convention, where it can easily go viral for all the wrong reasons.
Sheila1988, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I really would prefer that the Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) page be removed from WP:TFAP. – Epicgenius (talk) 18:40, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think that running Super Columbine Massacre RPG! would be a bad idea on reflection; it probably should never be article of the day. Don't see the problem with Donald Trump though, it's a topical issue. Sheila1988 (talk) 19:31, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel strongly about Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) appearing or not, so I will let others decide. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:51, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that it's topical, but the optics of having this episode as TFA on that day, when he is likely to be selected as the Republican candidate for the 2024 election, are bad to say the least. This article describes an episode where the host actively insults Donald Trump multiple times. Many of our readers are likely to have strong feelings about Trump, unlike for the vast majority of TFA subjects. I'm worried that this would lead to negative media coverage, talk page trolling, doxxing, etc. People have made such accusations about far smaller issues (see, for example, Talk:Recession/Archive 3), but whereas recession isn't even a contentious topic, Trump is part of the WP:AMPOL contentious topic.
For a similar reason that it would not be good to run Super Columbine Massacre RPG! on April 20, I don't think "Donald Trump" should run on any day in 2024, even if it's topical. Perhaps it can run some time in the future, but I would prefer not to ignite controversy over this topic. I'm sorry. – Epicgenius (talk) 20:21, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See WT:TFA; as you can see, I'm trying to keep the discussion from mentioning any particular person. - Dank (push to talk) 20:35, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have an issue with running Super Columbine Massacre, although I'd probably want to run through it and update it with any additional scholarship that's come out; I haven't substantially revised it since promotion. I agree that in the interest of not unduly bothering people it might be good to avoid running it well clear of the anniversary of the shooting. December 2023[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into 2024 Dr McKenna Cup. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sheila1988,
In the future, please either work on the draft version of an article in Draft space or move the draft back to main space rather than cutting and pasting the article into main space. We want to avoid having multiple articles on the same subject. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:16, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK I'll do that. Sheila1988 (talk) 09:09, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Synthesis of published material[edit]

Hi Sheila1988. I'd like to ask you to please read WP:SYNTH. Multiple of the sources you added on Independents 4 Change fall foul of this. The sources need to specifically state the claim being made. Also, using the website of a rival political party as a citation is not a fair or independent source. Helper201 (talk) 21:52, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK. The issue with I4C is that Wallace and Daly effectively are the party, there is no organization independent of them really, so saying they are pro-Russia is the same as saying that I4C are pro-Russia. Sheila1988 (talk) 09:47, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That argument falls directly foul of Synthesis of published material. Helper201 (talk) 03:09, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Beja as Recognised Language in Sudan[edit]

I hope you're well. I just noticed that Beja was listed as a recognised language in Sudan at Languages of Sudan. Looking into the history of the page, I found that you made the edit in 2022. I don't know by which act Beja could be considered to have any kind of official recognition. I know it's been a while: Do you remember what you were drawing on here? Pathawi (talk) 16:13, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I was trying to add that it was the most-spoken non-official language. The template is confusingly made as "unofficial =" displays as "Recognised" which is the opposite... I've moved 3 languages to "regional" instead. Sheila1988 (talk) 16:20, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
