Welcome to the Gaeilge task force of WikiProject Ireland and WikiProject Northern Ireland.

Scope

The Gaeilge task force covers:

• Providing Irish-language versions for Irish place names
• Providing English-language translations for Irish-language versions of Irish place names
• Providing similar support for Irish people, events, institutions, etc. where appropriate according to the manual of style

To do

To-do items for members of Gaeilge task force

• Find editors who have shown interest in this subject and ask them to take a look here.
• Develop manual of style for translation of Irish-language phrases
• Integrate best practice into the WP:IMOS
• Forge links with Scottish/Manx (and Welsh/Cornish/Breton?) cousins
• Update articles in Category:Untranslated Irish place names with no_translate=yes (as per updated {{Irish place name}} and {{Gaeltacht place name}}) to clear up blockages

• Convert old format for Irish place names to the newer {{irish place name}} and related templates

Tagging and assessment

Any articles that are within the scope of this project should be tagged with the project banners of WikiProject Ireland and/or WikiProject Northern Ireland. You may also find {{WikiProjectBanners}} useful. To each of these banners, you should add gaeilge-task-force = yes as this will automatically put the page in the appropriate categories, such as Category:Gaeilge task force articles.

• All articles awaiting Irish translations - populated by pages marked with {{gaeilge}}
• Untranslated Irish place names - automatically populated by {{Irish place name}} and {{Gaeltacht place name}}

Place names

• {{Irish place name}} - suitable for providing Irish-language versions of English-language place names

Place name notices
